Statewide Resource Sharing

State Library of Ohio patrons: Click here for how to use OLS: MORE

Ohio Libraries Share: MORE (OLS: MORE) consists of  nearly 100 participating libraries containing nearly 17 million volumes and 2.5 million patrons. Patrons from any participating library can request an item from another participating library and pick it up at the patron's home library.

OLS: MORE works across a variety of different library automation systems and enables libraries to provide their patrons more resources, books, music, videos –– any circulating item in a library collection. If patrons are unable to find an item in their local library catalog, they can perform the search in OLS: MORE and request the item. The item will be shipped to the patron's home library. The patron returns the item to the home library, where it is shipped back to the owning location. From the patron's perspective it's just that easy. For the libraries, there are further steps involved in coordinating the request for delivery.

OLS: MORE software reduces the amount of staff time required to participate in a statewide resource sharing circulation system because it is patron–initiated and patron–centered. One of the biggest differences between circulation and interlibrary loan, and the characteristic that drives up the cost for ILL, is mediation. Our intent is to keep staff mediation to a minimum and to reduce it over time as technology enables us to do so.

All of the details related to circulation (what circulates, who's responsible, circulation policies, etc.) are covered in the Principles of Cooperation. These principles govern the borrowing⁄lending behavior of OLS: MORE participating libraries.
